The following video is from Wednesday's installment of The Motley Fool'sWeekly Tech Review, in which host Chris Hill, and analysts Eric Bleeker and Lyons George look at the biggest stories driving the tech sector this week.
In this segment, Eric and Lyons discuss Apple's challenges in Europe. Recent research from Kantar Worldpanel shows the iPhone picking up market share gains in the United States. Over the past three months ending in May, 41.9% of all smartphones sold in the United States were iPhones. That compares with 38.5% in the comparable period from the previous year. That growth rate is above Android, which saw flat market share in the United States year over year.
In Australia, the iPhone saw nearly flat market share year over year but still maintained 28.5% of all smartphone sales. Even in urban China, its share stands at an impressive 23.6%.
Yet in Europe, the iPhone continues to fall behind, seeing its share shrink to 17.8% in the past three months, as measured by Kantar. The woes are heightened by share losses in Germany and Italy, both countries where the iPhone's market share has fallen to 15% or lower while Android continues surging. In the following video, Eric and Lyons discuss Apple's Europe woes, and why a cheaper "iPhone lite" could be important to filling a lower-end pricing gap in not just emerging markets, but in Europe.

Perhaps the closest parallel to this idea that currently exists in the U.S. is the health savings account, or HSA, offered by several insurers. For example, UnitedHealth's (NYSE: UNH ) HSA allows members to put money into the account and use the money to pay for medical costs up to their deductible levels. Traditional insurance then kicks in to cover the rest of the cost.

Deutsche Bank reported on Tuesday that it has boosted its rating on UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH)
The firm has upgraded UNH from “Hold” to “Buy,” and has lifted the company’s price target from $74 to $85. This new price target suggests a 14% increase from the stock’s current price of $74.24.
Analyst Scott Fidel commented: “We are upgrading our rating on UNH shares from Hold to Buy to reflect the company’s improving relative margin risk profile to peers driven by strengthening Commercial price discipline and more conservative approach to the public exchanges in 2014.
“UNH shares underperformed large cap MCO peers in 2013 as the core Health Benefits segment struggled to produce earnings upside. Our 2014 employer health benefits survey shows UNH pushing through price increases above the market which is a reversal from below-average rate increases in 2013. We are more now confident in the margin outlook for Health Benefits and upgrade our rating to Buy and raise PT.”
UnitedHealth Group shares were up 80 cents, or 1.08%, during pre-market trading Tuesday.

On the flip side, the iPIG portfolio initially passed on Emerson Electric (NYSE: EMR ) , in spite of its great business and dividend history, because its stock price was above the portfolio's buy-below valuation. Yet when the market later offered up Emerson at a lower, more reasonable price tag, the portfolio snapped up shares.
